V/A "The My Pal God Holiday Record" Cd mpg020 [Out of Print]
|
This record is the end result of doing an annual "holiday radio show" on the Princeton, NJ radio station WPRB since 1988.
This show occurs from Christmas eve until Christmas day, running 24 hours in length playing only "holiday themed" music.
December 24, 1998 was the 10th of these 24 hour holiday shows, and marking that with a record of bands doing holiday themed
songs seemed like the right thing to do. This Cd is a collection of originals and covers of songs about winter, Christmas,
Hannukah and New Year's.
Here are some notes on the record: The Law song will be making it's Cd debut after 10+ years of being available only as a
Cart at WPRB. Lustre King's song is a cover of a timeless soul classic. C-Clamp's song is a cover of a lovely Pretenders song.
The Goblins song is the theme to their holiday variety show "Ha-Ha Hannukah." Sarge's song is a Wham! cover. Sean Na Na is Sean
Tillman, formerly of Calvin Krime. His song is a cover as well. John Denver, I think. Margo vs. Eiffel Tower contains former
members of Edsel. Both of Crucial Youth's songs were only available on their 1988 Christmas 45 until this Cd came together.
"X-Mastime For The Skins" is done to the tune of "Crucified For Your Sins" by Iron Cross. The idea should actually be credited
to Pete from Dag Nasty, since he first suggested it. "Santa Claus is coming..." is an original, inspired by "Sergeant D is
coming" by S.O.D. The Sixto song is their first release. Sixto contains current and former members of Seam, Dis- and Travis.
Universal Life & Accident's song was first done by Prince. The City on Film is Bob from Braid [w/Elizabeth of Sarge] covering
that familiar Pogues song. Sweep the Leg Johnny cover the Band Aid song, with guest vocals from Mike of Lustre King and Carl
Saff [Neutrino]. Everything else is original, more or less. I think you'll like it. All the songs are exclusive to this
release. Enjoyable all year round.
